OUR PURPOSE
The UUCR provides developmentally appropriate programs for children and youth that:
- help them to explore the meaning of the UU principles, traditions, and heritage in their lives
- encourage their sense of their own personal worth and dignity and help them recognize and begin to achieve their potential as unique individuals
- encourage an appreciation of the sense of the worth and dignity of others, including those very different from themselves
- help them to examine their responsibilities to themselves, their community and their world
- help them explore the nature of their spirituality
- offer them fellowship, support, encouragement and a sense of belonging to a spiritual community.
UU PRINCIPLES AND PURPOSES (Children's Version)
As UU, we believe that...
- Every person is important and valuable.
- All people should be treated fairly.
- Our churches are places where we should accept one another and learn together.
- Each person should be free to search for what is true and right.
- All people have the right to speak out and vote on things that matter to them.
- We should help build a peaceful, fair and free world.
- We need to take care of the earth, the home we share with all living things.
These ideas come from many places:
- The sense of wonder we all share.
- Women and men long ago and today--people whose lives remind us to be fair and understanding,
- Religions of the world, including Jewish and Christian teachings, which tell us to love our friends and enemies as much as we love ourselves,
- Our common sense, and
- The discoveries of science.
Thankful for all of these ideas, we want to
learn even more. We come to church where we freely share our thoughts
and feelings and promise to trust and help one another.
"Whatever...stimulates the imagination, encourages exploration, provides
for creativity, develops reasoning, aids in perception, allows for differences,
anticipates questioning, and adds to a love of life...shall be part of
our curriculum."
-Sophia Fahs
