Please join Heart of the Blue Ridge Sangha each Sunday morning at UUCR. Our Sunday morning meditations, from 9:20 until 10:40 are well attended and we’re always happy to welcome new people. Contact Laurie if you have any questions. It’s a great way to start a Sunday!
Fabulous Fellowship Fridays are Starting in January!
Have you been missing small group and fellowship opportunities at UUCR? Are you a relative newcomer, looking for ways to get to know people at the church? Are you a long-time member hoping to enrich your religious exploration? If so, mark your calendars now for our new Fabulous Fellowship Fridays, beginning in January! On the third Friday of each month, we will have an evening of food, fellowship, reflection, and fun -- everything from food to in depth religious exploration opportunities, games and music to quiet worship time.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 18 -- UUCR is the place to be!! Join us for our first Fabulous Fellowship Friday, a night of food, centering, fellowship, fun and more meaningful interactions in smaller groups.
Here's the agenda for our first "FFF::
6:00pm - 6:30pm - Dinner
Our dinner will be vegetarian/vegan friendly, family friendly, and piping hot when you arrive. No, it is NOT a potluck -- come, let us serve you! If you'd like to make a small donation to the church to help offset the cost of food, we will gratefully accept this. However, all members and friends are welcome. No RSVP is necessary, but if you KNOW you're coming, will you contact the church at admin@uuroanoke.org or call 342-8888 so we have some sense of how much food to prepare?
6:30 pm - 6:50pm -- Centering worship
This will be a quiet service of music, a reading, silence and conversation. Short but long on meaning. There will be child care available for this portion of the evening.
7:00pm -- 9:00pm -- Small groups and games!
We will have opportunities to learn to play chess -- hosted by Mike Franke (bring a chess board if you have one!)...we'll have other board games and Twister available -- and small groups! Rev. Audette will be running a 3-meeting group on Integral Spirituality, based on the remarkable (and very UU) work of Ken Wilber. Kristin Reynolds will be hosting a Non-Violent Communication workshop -- see her write-up elsewhere in this newsletter. And Ami Trowell will be hosting a play reading group!
If you would like to offer a small group, please contact Rev. Audette at church at 342-8888x1, or home at 556-3798, or email revfulbright@gmail.com.
Come to all or just some of our evening together! Small groups and more conversational/fellowship based opportunities are among the most potent and meaningful aspects of church life. More than almost anywhere else in church (including Sunday services, many times!) this is where you are likely to find what feeds your deepest hungers.
Our February "FFF" evening will be particularly special, beginning with a "Life Passages" party, and continuing with a UU-Style Coffee House! We'll have guest musicians "The Aardvarks," featuring local musician Randy Walker, and time for members and friends to sing, dance, tell a joke, perform a magic trick, whatever you like (you know, within reason!) at our "open-mike" times in the course of the evening! Board games will also be available this evening, so eat, laugh, and sing with us on February 15! On March 21, we'll be back to the original format. April 18 -- May 16 -- June 20 -- Mark your calendars now!
