Climate & Clean Energy Rally

The Green Team of the Unitarian Universalist Church will hold it’s next Climate & Clean Energy Rally on 8/26 from 12:30 to 1:30 (weather permitting) on our street corner at Brandon and Grandin.  (We have been using the same signs for a long time; so if you wish to be creative and make a new one please do).  Send me an e-mail if you have questions.

Writing Group – Olin room at UUCR

Are you interested in fostering a personal practice of writing? Would you like to get to know others better through sharing and listening? A regular writing practice engenders creativity and promotes reflection and healing, and sharing with a group builds a community. We meet every other Wednesday in the Olin Room from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Any writing style is welcome – haiku, poetry, short story, essay, etc. For more information, please contact Anna Tulou Orr at annatulou@gmail.com.

Round Up at the Co-Op in August for Reading Seeds

GIVING UP or ROUND UP at the Co-Op in August!

Please support Reading Seeds, UUCR’s own early literacy program for at-risk children in our neighborhood, by giving up (rounding up to the next dollar) at the register when shopping at the Roanoke Co-op in the month of August.

All proceeds will go to purchasing high-quality, new children’s books for children at TAP Head Start and neighborhood elementary schools. Reading Seeds has increased its book distributions over the last couple of years so that children can build up big enough home libraries that will really make a difference in their ability to read.

Please help us continue to donate books at this level and make a real difference for our neighbors. See Caryl Connolly if you are interested in volunteering to sit at a Reading Seeds information table at the Co-op for an hour or two any Saturday in August. Caryl can be reached at yogawithcaryl@yahoo.com

Dances of Universal Peace

The dates in 2018 are continue on August 18, September 15, Oct 20, Nov 17 and Dec 15.

You are invited to join us for Dances of Universal Peace.  Dances of Universal Peace (Dances) are a universal spiritual practice.  The Dances are participatory.  We use sacred phrases and names of the Divine from many traditions with simple dances and song to foster experiences of love, peace, unity, harmony and more.  No experience is needed.  All Dances and songs are taught.  Come for all or part of the Dances.  Feel free to participate according your ability and desire.  We welcome children and youth who are able to respect the sacred space.  The practice is at times quiet and meditative while raucous and joyful at others.  We seek to cultivate and deepen our connection the Divine.  It is hoped that our experiences of peace, love, harmony and joy (and more!) will be carried in our hearts and spread in the world.  Dances held every  third Saturday, 7-9 pm, in the Fellowship Hall at UUCR.  For more information, call Rachel at 540-556-2233 or email at communityventures@yahoo.com.
