EARTH FRIENDLY FRIDAY presents | PIPELINE OPPOSITION UPDATE
June 8, 2016 – Social time, 6:30 (snacks welcome) Program, 7:00
Back when deciding on the program for June 8, I couldn’t predict what we might be facing then, and still can’t. We might be celebrating victory, but, more likely, the bubbly will still be on ice, and we will be working on many fronts to halt the natural gas monsters. This seems the perfect time to have Kirk Bowers, the Pipelines Program Coordinator for the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club, come and provide updates, advice, answers to questions, and details that will heighten our resolve and strengthen our efforts.
Kirk, a graduate of North Cross School with a Virginia Tech degree in civil engineering, was a Licensed Professional Engineer for over 35 years. A Vietnam era veteran, he serves as Conservation Chair of the Sierra Club Piedmont Group; steering committee member of the Dominion Pipeline Monitoring Coalition; voting member, Allegheny Blue Ridge Alliance; Board of Directors, Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, and District Chair, Rivanna Democrats.
This program is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke and the Roanoke Group of the Sierra Club. Programs are held on the second Friday of each month at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2015 Grandin Road SW, in Roanoke at the intersection with Brandon Avenue. Snacks for the social time before & after the presentation are welcome but not required. For more information contact Dan Crawford at email@example.com or 540-343-5080 or visit the Sierra Club website at http://sites.google.com/site/roanokesierra/ Also, please visit the UUCR Green Team website at:

“Our Annual UUCR Mother’s Day Bridging and Music Celebration!” with YRUU, Our UUCR Choir, Our Director of Music – Kerry Morgiewicz, Our Director of Faith Development – Alan Moore, and RevAlex
We’re out to have a solid hour of “praise worship” at UUCR on this Sunday. We’ll be marking major transitions in the lives of our youth. We’ll also be treated to great gifts of music from our choir. And most importantly, we’ll celebrate the great mothers and mothering energies that nurture and sustain all life. Come, Come to enjoy time together as congregation.
