This is not a potluck.

March Special Collection

Last Weeks Special Collection:
Special Collection for West End Center

If you were not at last Sunday’s service but would like to contribute to the special collection taken for the West End Center, there is still time. Just bring a check to next Sunday’s service or mail it to the church this week. Checks should be made out to UUCR, with “West End Center” in the memo line. The West End Center serves children and youth who live in many of Roanoke’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. It serves as a safe after-school haven and offers a tutoring program, parents’ program, and pregnancy and school dropout prevention programs. Thanks for helping us support this important work.

Special Collections Ballot for 2019-20
Do you work or volunteer for a local social service or social justice organization? If so, you can nominate the agency to benefit from one of UUCR’s four special collections next year. Members will vote on recipients at the annual meeting in May. To get your organization on the ballot, please see Lorraine Fleck at church or contact her at flecklk@gmail.com or 344-9476 no later than April 1.

ByLaws Information Session

Our New Bylaws Vote Is Coming!

What new Bylaws? What’s being changed? Find out at one of the information sessions after the Sunday services on February 3 and February 24, from 12 to 1. UUCR Board members will be there to give you a rundown on the 2019 proposal for changes to our Bylaws, and to hear your questions and concerns.

Or you can read a short clear summary of what’s being proposed at uuroanoke.org. Just click on “About” and choose “Our Governance” from the drop-down menu. Then click on “Summary of Proposed Changes Jan 2019”.

Some changes are aimed at smoother functioning, and at fixing mismatches between the current Bylaws and our Policy Manual or UUCR’s informal practices. Others work to catch up with some best-practice recommendations from our national group, UUA.

Want more? On the same website page, you can also find the current Bylaws, the Proposed New Bylaws 2019, and a careful Bylaws Change Comparison Document, which indicates with strikeouts and colored font what goes and what’s new, if the proposed versions passes.

We at UUCR have been talking and thinking and wondering and revising our revisions for a couple years now. On Sunday, March 17 we’ll meet for a formal vote on the 2019 proposal for a changed version of our Bylaws. Do show up: your vote matters. If you can’t make it, proxy forms will be available that day and on preceding Sundays.

The proxies are easy to fill out, so don’t let this slip your mind. We need them to make sure we have a quorum, so we can have a vote that officially expresses the membership’s will—and besides, we want your voice to be represented!

As always, your Board members stand ready to hear your views and questions on this or any other matter, any ol’ time.
